FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – January 21, 2013
The Craig Willinger Fund will mark the one-year anniversary of the passing of founder and Baltimore native, Craig Willinger, who succumbed to complications from a bone marrow transplant on February 15. 2012. Craig was 42 years old.
Diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in 2007, Craig was inspired to found the Craig Willinger Fund upon returning from a dream soccer trip to Germany, gifted to him by a local group of Liverpool Football Club supporters. Craig felt his trip was more therapeutic than any cancer treatment and that type of experience should be provided to other soccer fans fighting cancer.
Since 2010, the CWFund has honored young cancer survivors with trips to see the U.S. Men’s National Team at FIFA’s World Cup in South Africa; FC Barcelona at Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain; AC Milan at San Siro in Milan, Italy and Chelsea FC at Yankee Stadium in New York City, NY. Craig’s dream of delivering hope and inspiration to young soccer fans living with cancer remains the motivation and the mission of the Craig Willinger Fund today.
Sláinte Irish Pub and Restaurant in Baltimore, Maryland, will commemorate Craig’s passing by hanging a Bayern Münich jersey, Craig’s favorite team, in his name. The event starts at 7:00 PM and is open to all. Sláinte Irish Pub and Restaurant will have a complimentary food buffet from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will feature drink specials all night. Sláinte is located at 1700 Thames Street in Historic Fells Point.
