FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 28, 2013

BALTIMORE, MD – The Craig Willinger Fund proudly announces Zachary Bach of Richmond, Virginia as honoree for Spring 2013. Zachary, a fan of Real Madrid, will travel next week to Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain to see his favorite team play in both a Champions League and La Liga match.

Zachary Bach, 17, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his left arm the day he learned he was selected to his high school varsity soccer team as a freshman. Bach’s treatment included a year’s worth of chemotherapy as well as surgery to remove a golf ball-sized tumor from his humerus, leaving him with limited mobility in his arm. Zachary is now back playing varsity soccer. He is also serves as a referee for U12 soccer games and is working towards a ranking of Eagle Scout.

Travel and accommodation expenses for our honoree have been funded in part by a $2,000 grant from the eBay Foundation Corporate Advised Fund at Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The grant was recommended by Eileen Byrne of the eBay Foundation’s employee-volunteer led Baltimore GIVE Team.

The Craig Willinger Fund, formed in 2009, seeks to improve the lives of children and young adults stricken with cancer by providing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to experience world-class soccer – both domestically and abroad. CWFund is actively seeking applications for future travel as well as volunteers.  For application guidelines and donation information, go to www.cwfund.org.
